My journey began one year ago.  I had minor surgery and could not recover.  I was extremely lethargic and had difficulty sleeping.  My GP checked my thyroid and said results were normal.

I am 67 years old and the Doctor said recovery  takes longer when we age.
Dr. Cabeca did extensive lab work and diagnosed adrenal insufficiency and systemic candida.   My treatment was a strict diet and multiple supplements. 

With time my labs returned to normal and and so did my weight (from 192 to 157lbs in 6 months!).  I can’t imagine feeling worse than I did; but without Dr. Cabeca my condition would have deteriorated.  I don’t know where I would be today without her diagnosis and intervention.

Dear Dr. Cabeca,

When I first came to your office, I asked god if this was His will by saying to Him, "If it is your will Father, you'll play Christian music at this doctors office." And of course you did, so this was the first answer to prayer.

I then followed your program (and I was considered a health nut) and changed my diet to what you suggested. You also healed my 'crazy' hormones, thyroid, and vitamin D level. I had been praying for a life outside of work because it seemed that I just worked and recuperated on my days off then returned to work. - Not much of a life. I needed energy.

Well let me tell you just some of the things I'm doing now that I haven't in 10-20 yrs.!!

I have a horse and used to ride over 10 yrs ago. I had a Fusion L4, L5 and just quit riding and I never felt like trying to ride again. Well after 10 years, I'm riding my horse "Monkee", and getting her ready for my grands to ride! (That's another miracle answered to prayer!)

I used to jog, in my 20's and felt so free, strong, and energized. (I usually just do aerobics from DVD's, lately from 'Faithful Workouts' on NRB (the Christian network), So guess what, I'm jogging now and my back is tolerating it! Another miracle and answer to prayer!
I've also started attending bible study I love. Before I didn't feel like going anywhere outside of work.

Also my hormones are beginning to work again, which can save marriages especially with husbands who seem to have elevated testosterone.

I'm on your Vitamins, the Maca Greens, the Pura D Cleanse milkshakes, and the gluten free diet.

"Two years ago my husband was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent extensive chemotherapy and radiation for 8 months.  During those 8 months, I assumed the role of caregiver and all around “super hero.”  Every woman finds out how capable she is when a family member is sick and in crisis. 

These past years have taken a toll on me and I have also developed some coping mechanisms that haven’t helped. 

One morning this past summer, I had an appointment with Libby Carter for my annual physical exam.  I was simply looking forward to getting the appointment over with, little did I realize how much she would help me.

"My life prior to having children was a very productive, joyful, and active life.  Since having three children I have experienced severe insomnia, as well as depression that only resolved for a few months between my first and second child.  By the time I had my third child my body seemed unable to recover without the aid of prescription anti-depressants.  Yet, even with this medication, I still didn’t feel like myself.  I felt better, but not like my pre-child bearing self.  Over a year ago, while weaning very slowly of off one of the medications I was prescribed, the insomnia came back full force, and so did a depression that was worse than any I had experienced up to that time.  I was determined never to take any drug like that again; the withdrawal from the medication was worse than the original depression, which was bad enough itself. "I was sick for 5 years, and went from state to state, and doctor to doctor, trying to get to the root of the problem.  The tests results yielded any number of things, including: lyme disease, mono, parasites in the digestive tract, chronic exhaustion, chronic low blood pressure, chronic insomnia, and menopause.  But no solution was ever found.

When I moved to Brunswick,  I was finally referred to Dr. Cabeca.  She immediately put me on pharmaceutical grade supplements and ran lab tests not only for hormones, but also for cortisol, challenge tests, and a Triad test, which had never been run on me.  She was able to diagnose my 5 years of symptoms as being caused by adrenal fatigue.  She directed me to a book, which explained the diagnosis, and I had every symptom to a “T”.  We are now gradually resolving my symptoms with modification of lifestyle and pharmaceutical grade supplements.

1.  Why did you seek out Dr. Cabeca?
I had not felt well for months and this got worse & worse.  I knew that I needed help but just didn’t know what to do.  My regular internist had seen me a few months before and said that I needed to lose weight.  I explained that even though I knew that, I had had numerous episodes where I would work on a major project walking many miles / day & I would GAIN WEIGHT.  Every time - even though I would eat normally during those days....not excessively.  He had no answer or really response.  So, I didn’t think that he could help me!  I heard about Dr. Cabeca from a good friend and then a relative.

2.  What were your specific issues?

-VERY tired

-Depressed

-Abnormally irritable

-Weight gain

-Poor sleeping

-Itching….arms and toes-VERY poor memory....it got scary. 

3.  What results have you seen?

-Lost 40 pounds!!

-No longer tired

-Feel MUCH better as far as “depressed” feeling

-Irritability….drastically reduced

-Sleeping better

-Itching….generally gone.  Occasionally, have a flare up but not often.

-Memory improved.  I still have some issues with this, but not nearly as bad.

4.  How long did it take?   

-Weight loss took about 5 months.  (I do still have more that I want to lose.)  And, it wasn’t easy!  But as I started to feel better and lost some weight it was very encouraging.  

-Feeling of unhappiness, sadness......started feeling better after about 2 months.

-Irritability…….was better after  a couple of months.  Much better after 3-4 months!!

-Itching….probably within 2 months gone.   

-Sleeping….. Improved after about 4 months when Dr. Cabeca added a small amount of Estrogen to my regime. Made a BIG difference!

-Memory…..probably started noticing an improvement after about 2-3 months.

5.  What else can you tell others about Dr. Cabeca?
Dr. Cabeca saved my life!!!  I had felt like I was falling down a tunnel and could not stop it.  It was so great to find someone like her who acknowledged that these were real issues and that there were ways to help.  Of course, the initial battery of blood work told a lot.  But, the BIG THING that changed my life was when she listened to my symptoms that I continued to have after about 4 weeks of being on the Restorative Health program.  She determined that I probably was suffering from Candida and had me start eating based on the Candida food plan.  THIS CHANGED MY LIFE!!!  Not only did I lose weight and feel better but I started seeing results physically.  When I read articles about the effects of Candida in your system.....it was ME!!!  Eating healthy meals but always feeling hungry, just among one of the symptoms.  Of course, I also exercised (water aerobics) with my diet plan, but I lost that cellulite in my thighs & buttocks.  My buttocks had ALWAYS been large and that was one of the first things that everyone noticed.....it got smaller.

Dr. Cabeca is so knowledgeable and very in tuned to her patients! It is so wonderful to find someone like her who has the medical training but also is incorporating all of the wonderful natural/holistic healing methods that are so important.  I am so grateful to her for changing my life!!

I was with child four times in five years and put on 100lbs. putting me at 275lbs. I tried to lose weight on and off with little sucess for four years.  After four years I had only lost 38lbs.  I began Dr. Cabeca's detox program weighing 237.5 lbs.  After I completed the 40 day detox I began the HCG diet.  I did that for forty days and then maintained my weight for three weeks and then did a ten day detox.  I then did another forty days of HCG.  By the end of January 2010 I had lost 54lbs. weighing 183.5 in only four months.  I have taken the last three months off and have not gained the weight back.  I just began HCG for a third time and plan to get down to 170lbs.  It is working again!  I lost 3lbs. the first three days!  I have already gone from wearing an 18W to wearing a 10 or a 12. I have PCOS and endometriosis.  Surgery was the only option the first doctor I saw suggested.  I had bleeding problems and other hormone issues that were resolved by doing this diet.  My hormones were all perfect according to my blood work by the time I completed my second round of HCG.  My thyroid has corrected with the help of Armour Thyroid and I feel like a new woman!  I hope to reach my goal weight by May.  I have a water skiing trip planned for May and I'd like to really enjoy skiing for the first time 9 years.  I have been married for 12 years and I am finally within 10 lbs. of what I weighed when I got married.  It feels great to be healthy and able to enjoy long bike rides around the island again.
